This page is dedicated to providing you with the best up to date engineering information around. Whether you have a question about CE, just want to check out what it offers, or are a seriously dedicated Combat Engineer we'll answer any questions you may have with this easy to understand guide on how to use Advanced Engineering including all things that has to do with the Adaptive Construction Engine known as ACE for short, and the Field Deployable Unit respectively known as FDU.

Lets get started!

Combat Engineer Certification:

PlanetSide Adaptive Construction Engine Image The ACE is given to all players with the Combat Engineering certification. If you only have the Combat Engineering Certification then you will have access to four modes of the ACE. Note this information is previously given in our Support Items section.

PlanetSide Boomer ImageThe first mode is the "Boomer" as called in the game. It's essentially a remote controlled bomb that detonates when triggered. Simply lay down the bomb and then detonate it when you're ready.

PlanetSide Image HE MineThe second mode is called the "HE Mine" which stands for High Explosive Mine. This is basically a proximately mine that automatically detonates when an enemy comes within 3m of it. This is a set and forget item meaning you set it up and then forget about it. It does all of the work for you.

PlanetSide Spitfire Turret ImageThe third fire mode allows the Combat Engineer to deploy a spitfire turret which is capable of detecting enemies running within a 50m vicinity. Once the turret detects enemies within it's radius it begins to automatically fire on that enemy. The turret will never run out of ammunition but takes damage just like anything else. A damaged turret can be repaired by an Engineer using the NANO Dispenser. If you slowly move past this turret or have the Sensor Shield implant enabled it will not fire at you.

PlanetSide Motion Alarm Sensor ImageThe fourth and final fire mode of the ACE is called the Motion Sensor. This sensor detects enemies moving within a 50m radius and makes a high pitched alert sound to alert friendlies in the area.

Slowly moving past this sensor will fool it into thinking no one is around. The Sensor Shield implant can also bypass this sensor.

The maximum values for ACE deployable by anyone with the CE Certification is 10 for the Boomer, 20 for the Mine, 20 for the Spitfire Turret, and 20 for the Motion Alarm Sensor.

Assault Engineering Certification:

Assault Engineering provides the ability to use the Field Deployable Unit to create empire specific field turrets as well as an Aegis Shield generator. With Assault Engineering you will be able to deploy your CE such as spitfire turrets within an enemy SOI and you will be able to upgrade the Aegis Shield Turret with a limited time ability to provide an ammunition supply depot.

Advanced Combat Engineering capabilities:

Aside from being able to place your CE within the SOI of an enemy empire the Assault Engineering provides the ability to place a new version of a mine known as the Disruptor Mine.

PlanetSide Disruptor Mine ImageThe Disruptor Mine is essentially a proximity jammer. It functions just like any type of jammer disabling vehicles, implants, enemy radar, and even MAX special abilities. The Disruptor mine will detonate and provide a short EMP blast once an enemy comes within 3m of it.

Field Deployable Unit:

PlanetSide Field Deployable Unit ImageThe Assault Engineer can use the Field Deployable Unit known as an FDU to create an Empire Specific Field Turret and an Aegis Shield Generator.

PlanetSide Aegis Shield Generator ImageThe Aegis Shield Generator created by the Assault Engineer provides a 20m diameter (or 10m radius if you'd prefer) cloaking bubble that hides players within the field from visual detection by helping them to cloak.

Aegis Shield Generator upgrades:

PlanetSide Aegis Shield Generator Ammo Upgrade ImageAdditionally the Assault Engineer can upgrade the Aegis Shield Generator with a limited time ammo supply depot that allows friendly soldiers to replenish lost ammo by accessing the Shield Generator the same way they would an equipment terminal.

PlanetSide Aegis Shield Generator Ammo Depot ImageIt's important to note that this is not an equipment terminal. As we show you in the image to the left, the ammo supply depot provides only the ability to restock on ammunition. You cannot pull your MAX here or pick your one of your favorites.

Empire Specific Field Turrets:

Aside from being able to use the FDU to create an Aegis Shield Generator, the Assault Engineer may also use it to place an empire specific Field Turret.

The field turret itself alters dependant on which empire you're associated with. Our base damage testing refers to optimal conditions against soft targets only.

PlanetSide Osprey ImageThe New Conglomerate version known as the the Osprey is equipped with a standard empire shotgun type weapon that, like other New Conglomerate weaponry, is focused on high damage while trading off speed. This turret has a range of 250m and a base damage of 90 against soft targets.

PlanetSide Osprey ImageThe Terran Republic variant called the Avenger is a Cycler weapon as found on the Dual Cycler Mechanized ExoSuit. The Avenger has a range of 250m and performs 14 base damage to soft targets.

PlanetSide Osprey ImageThe Vanu Sovereignty Orion is equipped with a Quasar weapon found on the Vanu's Anti-Infantry MAX. The Quasar weaponry has a 250m range and performs 25 base damage against soft targets.

Fortification Engineering Certification:

Fortification Engineering provides increased amount of CE deployment, meaning you can deploy even further CE than before. It allows the use of the Field Deployable Unit to create Tactical Resonance Area Protectors, and it provides the Fortification Engineer with the ability to upgrade basic automated Wall Turrets to Anti-Vehicular and Anti-Aircraft variants as well as give Aegis Shield Generator an absorbent shield which protects against incoming fire.

Advanced Combat Engineering capabilities:

In addition to the basic Combat Engineering deployables, the Fortification Engineer can deploy up to 25 Spitfire Turrets, 25 HE Mines, and 25 Motion Sensors. Furthermore they can deploy two new types of Spitfire Turret variations called the Shadow Turret and the Cereberus Turret.

Shadow Turret:

PlanetSide Shadow Turret ImageThe Shadow Turret is a Spitfire Turret that can cloak itself concealing itself from visual detection. This is a great tool against warding off attackers as the Shadow Turret performs well as a surprise attack instrument. This turret functions exactly the same as a standard spitfire turret. A maximum of 5 Shadow Turrets may be deployed at any given time.

Cereberus Turret:

PlanetSide Cereberus Turret ImageThe second variation is known as the Cerberus Turret. This is an anti-aircraft automated turret that fires flak rounds at aircraft. Up to 5 Cereberus Turrets may be placed.

Field Deployable Unit:

PlanetSide Field Deployable Unit ImageThe Field Deployable Unit pictured to the left is used to create items too big for the standard ACE. With this, an Aegis Shield Generator, a TRAP, and an empire specific manual turret may be deployed by the user.

PlanetSide TRAP ImageTRAPs are blockades used to deny enemy vehicles access to certain places. While TRAPs can be destroyed like anything else, they have a hefty amount of armor.

TRAPs recognize friendly vehicles and allow them to pass right through it.

Up to 5 Traps may be deployed at any one time.

Aegis Shield Generator Upgrade:

The Aegis Shield Generator is deployed by an Assault Engineer not the Fortification Engineer. However the Fortification Engineer has the ability to give the Aegis Shield Generator a protective shield that blocks all incoming fire. The Shield Generator can with this upgrade can absorb up to [amount] of damage. Once this amount of damage is sustained the Aegis Shield Generator will be destroyed.

PlanetSide Aegis Shield Generator Shield Charge ImageTo Upgrade an Aegis Shield Generator with a shield you'll need a NANO Dispenser. Simply equip the NANO Dispenser and fire it at an Aegis Shield Generator to begin the upgrade process.

Note: The upgrade process can be cancelled and completed at a different time. The progress bar does not reset if you stop upgrading the Aegis Shield Generator.

Wall Turret Upgrades:

A final perk for the Fortification Engineer is the ability to upgrade base Wall Turrets.

To upgrade a standard Wall Turret you must use the NANO Dispenser equipped with the Upgrade Canister. Press the default button 'X' to switch between the Canister and the standard Armor Canister.

PlanetSide Wall Turret ImageOnce you have a NANO Dispenser with an Upgrade Canister head to the Wall Turret you wish to upgrade. Wall Turrets as pictured to the left are automated base defense systems that will automatically fire on hardened armored targets within a short range of it. They can also be manned and used manually with a range of 300m+

PlanetSide Turret Upgrade Options ImageApproach the Wall Turret and use the fire button with the NANO Dispenser on the turret to be provided with two options.

You can choose to provide the Turret with Anti-Vehicle Shells, Anti-Air Flak, or you may cancel your decision entirely.

PlanetSide Wall Turret Upgrade Progress Bar ImageChoose the option you wish to upgrade the turret as. Once you do the process for upgrading the turret will begin. A progress bar will display on your screen as pictured to the left. Use this method to upgrade any turret to whichever version you would like.

PlanetSide Anti-Vehicular Wall TurretThe Anti-Vehicular or AV Wall Turret performs as a basic wall turret with an additional 75mm Cannon mounted on it to ward off against armored targets.

PlanetSide Anti-Aircraft Wall Turret ImageThe Anti-Aircraft or AA Wall Turret also performs as a basic turret but this weapon can quickly destroy enemy aircraft as it now becomes mounted with an Anti-Air Flak Cannon.

Please note that while upgraded turrets can be exceptionally helpful in defense of a base, automated systems will still use the chaingun. These upgraded turrets must be manually manned if the advanced weaponry is to be used.
